From Tripadvisor: Overall, I think they are genuine car rental company with pretty good customer service. During my visit to Iceland in the month of Nov 2016, I booked Toyota Rav4 and the condition of the car was nice and clean and the young dude at the counter showed me the basic functions of the car. By the way, Rav4 is a good car with spacious back to load 4 big luggage. I did not encounter any problem with them - the online booking was smooth, feedback was prompt, the car inspect was quick and return the car without any problem. They even were flexible to accommodate my last-minute requests to add one additional days to the rental due to unpredictable weather at the east coast causing us unable to return car at Akureyri. So, despite the comparatively higher price they charged, I would still opt for them simply because the ease of mind they gave me during my trip in the country. Thumbs up to them.

From Tripadvisor: Wanted to add to the stream of praises. This is an excellent company! They are very quick to respond to emails, and in a pinch, you can call them. I rented a Suzuki Forester 4WD from them. We showed up early in the morning, and walked to their shop from the airport. It is not inside the terminal, but only a very short distance (there are a cluster of car companies right outside the terminal). Not sure what to say...the pickup was smooth, we drove around the entire island, dropped off the car at the parking lot after hours, and went home. No problems, no hassles, no surprise charges for non-existent damage, no scams. They are a good, honest company. I would recommend them to anyone.

From Tripadvisor: We travelled for two weeks around Iceland in June 2016. It was our second journey to this country. Both times we rented car from Reykjavik Rent a Car because of low price and good service. It was Suzuki Grand Vitara. This time we injured car, it was our fault but the Company changed car very quickly and we were able to continue our journey. We are very thankful to Mr. Halldor Baldvinsson for great help and humanity. Sure, to use Reykjavik Rent a Car in our future trip and recommend it to everybody.

From Tripadvisor: For my 4th trip to Iceland I'll back to Reykayavik rent a car company. Because of : -lower prices -BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER EXISTS -perfect conditions for your road trip (pick up, consulting,tips,ideas etc) -good cars (we choose Suzuki Jimny, Grand Vitara and now taking Hyundai i30) first year we´ve got a car crash but the help and support from managers was on the highest level we could even imagine. so, it's going to be the HIGHLY RECOMMENDED company for road trip travellers. we tried another one company next year with pretty the same prices, car was ok and that's all I can say about. Special thanks to Mr.Magnusson and Kristian who made our trip unforgettable!

After searching through every Iceland car rental company and being horrified by the scams and bad experiences folk were having i almost cancelled my trip because I couldn't find a company that didn't do the ash damage scam that charges enormous deductible fees for the tiniest of marks? I then at the very last moment stumbled across this thread and was so relieved to see such awesome reviews of a decent respectful car rental company that is REYKJAVIK RENT A CAR that seemed to not be involved with the scam. Feeling relieved and happy with the glowing reviews I proceeded to make a booking for my trip. I went to Iceland and rented the car which was a great car and took me all over the island flawlessly with no issues whatsoever and ended with a flawless hand over on its return, no scams, no outrageous charges for tiny marks that were already there before. Everything went 100% perfect and gave us an amazing holiday to remember for life. I will be returning again in late October hopefully and will be renting from them again and again for sure. I am uber happy with my experience with Reykjavik Rent a Car and will be visiting Iceland every year from now on and will definitely rent from them every time I visit Iceland. This company values your repeat business and don't operate underhand like the others do. Make sure you rent your car in Iceland with this company if you wish to have a good holiday!! Avoid all the big names like Avis, Sixt, Europe Car etc as they all deep into the scam it so appears!

We were at a lost on which rental company to choose since the reviews from other companies weren't that good. so, we decided to walk around the area and got lucky talking with the guys from Reykjavik Rent a Car. Since we are a group of 7 and the only car they can give us is the 11-seater Starex, they advised us to look for another since it would be a bit expensive for us. But we decided to just get the van and they were nice about it. will rent from them again if ever we come back to Iceland!

From Tripadvisor: Just wanted to add to this stream of replies. My family and I, a total of 4 just got back from Iceland. We rented a a 4x4 Dacia Duster from Reykjavik Rent a car so that we could tour the country for about a week, (which we did, 2800 kilometres in fact). From the moment we got our bags and went outside they had their rep waiting there with my name on a clip board. The young man was very friendly and took us over to their rental office about a 2-minute drive from the airport. There he just took a copy of my Driver's License and card we used to make the booking. After which we went outside, we looked at the car, did a quick inspection, and he gave us some tips about the vehicle. After that we were on our merry way! That simple. No BS, no added fees, no hidden fees. Straight forward. They were very easy to deal with. We toured the country as mentioned above about 2800 km's and never once had a break down or any issues with the car. They gave us the car with a full tank which was nice, because the last thing you want to do after an 8-hr flight is stop and get gas. I have nothing but good things to say about this company, and I would absolutely recommend them to anyone renting a car in Iceland. I don't know how their prices compare to others but I felt we got a good deal for a week's worth of travel in a nice safe 4x4. As mentioned in other replies their general manager Kristjan never sleeps! He answers emails often within an hour or two tops, and was very helpful and nice to deal with. So, save yourself the headache and just deal with the best. These guys will have my return business when my wife and I plan to go back to Iceland this winter.

From Tripadvisor: We were a group of six and hired a Mercedes Benz Vito 9 seats 4WD automatic transmission. We picked up our car at the Egilsstadir airport. Their service was excellent. I can say that they are great! I met their staff at the Reykjavik domestic airport. The staff was professional, friendly and nice. During my trip, I was once stucked in the snow. They provided me a very prompt assistance to solve out the problem when I called them in the first place. I highly recommend this company.

From Tripadvisor: This is quite possibly the best car rental company I have ever had the privilege of using, I have rented cars in Spain, Lithuania, Italy, Portugal, and the united states, but none of them come close to Reykjavik rent a car, the people there are lovely, the cars are great, they give good advice and maps and I really can't say enough good things about them, I can’t wait to go back to Iceland, and I will most definitely be renting with them again, :)

From Tripadvisor: Nous avons loué un 4x4 en août avec Reykjavik rent a car. Le tarif était très compétitif par rapport à la concurrence. Paiement de 20% à la livraison, le solde 15 jours avant le départ, c'était pratique, vu le prix conséquent pour 19 jours. A la livraison, le 4x4, un pick-up double Cab presque neuf était avec une boite automatique, alors que nous avions demandé une boîte manuelle. Le directeur de l'agence nous a consenti une réduction de 10 % qui a été créditée très rapidement sur notre compte bancaire. Restitution sans aucun problème. Je recommande vivement cette compagnie.

From Tripadvisor: These folks were great. Senior reviewer on TA and I couldn't have been more pleased with this company. The vehicles were in great shape, the office was nice and clean, the staff were friendly and incredibly helpful and flexible for late arrivals but above all the communication was amazing. So very impressed that all my emails were returned within hours! Even late-night emails!! Needless to say, I would use them again in a heartbeat and would highly recommend them.

From Tripadvisor: I went to Iceland 2 weeks ago. Encouraged by good reviews I’ve chosen Reykjavik Rent a Car and I have to say, the reviews are true. They offer great service, not one of these companies that rip you off at car return. The company is run by young, sympathy folks. The prices they offer are not expensive, comparing to other car rentals - slightly higher then 'budget car rentals', but it is worth to spend a few more pennies and pick a rental house that will not charge you a load for a midget scratch. The rental house is located approx. 300m from the airport terminal. It is not far, but Icelandic weather conditions are sometimes demanding. The weather was really bad as we landed, so they picked us up and drove us to the office. At the return, they also offered a lift to the terminal, but the weather was nice so we walked. I think this gives an overall look how nice these guys are ;-) If I ever come again to Iceland I will chose this company again for sure!

From Tripadvisor: I rented a car with Reykjavík Rent A Car and ended up having to cancel my reservation due to unforeseen circumstances. The friendly and helpful staff member that I spoke to on the phone gave me a full refund without an additional charge. When I first booked, there was an issue with AmEx and Reykjavík Rent A Car emailed me right away and were very communicative. Though I'm disappointed that I won't be able to follow through with my rental on this trip, I am very impressed with Reykjavík Rent A Car's selection, prices, and customer services and will definitely book a car with them on my next trip to Iceland.

Le service de Reykjavik Rent a Car a été PERFECT et très agréable du début à la fin. Franchement, pour moi c'est la meilleure agence de location là-bas. From Tripadvisor: These guys were great. Very good communication, seamless drop-off (of car) at our hotel, friendly. Our Dacia Duster was literally brand-new- something like 30KM on it- and it was great. I was a little sad to some home and have to drive my car.

From Tripadvisor: I choose Reykjavik Rent a Car because of the good roomers and reviews about the company. In the process of choosing a rental company they answered my emails almost instantly, even in late evenings, giving me good answers to my questions. I rented a Jeep Wrangler from them, driving nearly 2000 km between Jokulsharlon and the Westfjords including Djupavik and Latrabjarg. Some of these roads were really rocky, so I was happy with the choice of car. However, the doors trap on a Jeep Wrangler is in my opinion a design weakness. On my last evening the door strap snapped, the door went forward and made a bump damage in front of the window. I informed the employees about this when I returned the car. I was informed that the owner would inform me by email about the cost of the damage, expecting the worst. The day after I received an email where they said that they wouldn't find it fair to charge me for the damage, as the door strap most likely had been worn out over time, and

From Tripadvisor: After doing loads of research on various Iceland car rental agencies (and there are A LOT!), I settled with Reykjavik Rent A Car because of their excellent communication, responding to my email inquiries quickly and helping with my rental modifications after we realized we needed a larger vehicle, and importantly because their prices are incredibly competitive. They offer some of the lowest rates, but have newer, higher quality vehicles. I was not about to rent an old car for driving the Ring Road in Winter! When we first arrived at the airport, there was a crowd of agency reps holding signs of people they're there to pick up, and we panicked a little bit when we didn't see my name. I guess our guy either walked away for a minute or had just arrived, but the panic only lasted 5 minutes. From that point on, everything went extremely smoothly. From Tripadvisor: My girlfriend and I drove around the ring road over our New Year's holiday in a car rented from Reykjavik rent-a-car. I had selected them in part because of the positive review here, and I want to confirm that they were simply excellent. They did everything right and went a little beyond. We had ordered winter tires without studs, and after a couple days driving around the city, we thought maybe we should have studs for our ring road trip. The staff agreed to take the car to a mechanic to switch them free of charge. In the end, we changed our mind and kept the original tires, but the fact that they were willing to accommodate us was really outstanding. We also got a parking ticket in Akureyri that we forgot about until we had left the country, and they paid it for us after we returned the car. I highly recommend these guys.
